Questions
Frequently asked
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No. In Illinois, chiropractors are portal-of-entry providers, which means you can book directly without a referral from another doctor. If you're coming in after an injury or with imaging from elsewhere, bring it along — it helps.
What happens at my first visit?
Your first appointment is an Initial Examination and runs about 60 minutes. We take your history, examine how you move, and — when it's warranted — take X-rays on site. You'll leave understanding what we found and what the plan is, and in most cases treatment starts the same visit.
How long are appointments?
An Initial Examination is about 60 minutes. Follow-up treatment sessions are about 20 minutes. A re-examination or a new injury visit is about 40 minutes. Recovery Club treatments vary by service — assisted stretch and myofascial release are offered in 30- and 60-minute formats.
Do you take insurance?
Coverage varies quite a bit by plan, so the honest answer is to call us at (708) 813-9606 before your visit and we'll walk through your specific benefits with you. Note that prepaid treatment packages and Recovery Club memberships cannot be submitted to insurance.
Does an adjustment hurt?
Most patients describe an adjustment as relieving rather than painful. You may hear a popping sound — that's gas releasing from the joint, not bones cracking. If you're sore afterward it's usually mild and short-lived, similar to how you'd feel after a good workout. Tell your doctor if anything is uncomfortable; the technique can be adjusted.
Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
No. They use similar thin needles, but the reasoning is different. Acupuncture works from traditional Chinese medicine meridians. Dry needling is based on modern anatomy — the needle is placed into a trigger point in a tight muscle to get it to release. Most patients feel a brief twitch, then the muscle lets go.
Do you treat people who aren't athletes?
Yes, and that's a large share of our patients. The same assessment-first approach that helps an athlete also helps someone with desk-job neck pain, recurring headaches, low back pain, or anyone who wants to move comfortably again. Performance care isn't only for performers.
Do you treat pregnant patients and children?
Yes. Dr. Salman has post-doctoral training in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic. Prenatal care uses pregnancy-specific positioning and low-force technique — including the Webster Technique — to ease low back, pelvic, and sciatic pain through pregnancy and into postpartum recovery. Pediatric care uses pressure appropriate to a child's size and stage, for everything from posture and sleep to sports injuries in young athletes.
Do you have X-ray on site?
Yes. Digital X-ray is available in the clinic, so if imaging is needed to understand what's going on we can take it during your visit instead of sending you elsewhere and waiting.
What is the AHP Recovery Club?
It's our membership for recovery services — cupping, dry needling, IASTM, assisted stretch, myofascial release, and Normatec compression — at member pricing. Tiers run from $79 to $499 per month, and you can also buy prepaid treatment packs or single sessions without a membership.
How do I book?
Book online any time, or call (708) 813-9606. Same-week appointments are often available. Recovery Club memberships and treatment packs are set up by our team, so call or ask at your next visit for those.
Where are you located and who do you serve?
We're at 9501 W 171st Street, Suite I in Tinley Park, IL 60487. Patients come to us from Orland Park, Mokena, Frankfort, Homer Glen, New Lenox, and across the South Suburbs.
